About the screener

The profitable companies’ data screen aims to reflect companies that have consistently managed to report profits over the past five years or more. This screen also takes into consideration other fundamental operating metrics such as Debt to Equity, Revenue growth, Interest Coverage Ratio, and Operating Profit.

If a company does not make money from its business or its expenses are continuously higher than its earnings, its shares are unlikely to perform well in the long run and cannot create value for shareholders. For a company's share to grow consistently in the long term, the company must generate profit on a sustainable basis.

The profitable companies’ data screen of Sivastatz aims to filter out firms that have consistently generated profits over the past five years or more. For each company shown on the screen, average net profit growth, revenue growth, return on equity, and historical dividend yield for the last five years are given along with other relevant data such as market capitalisation, mean consensus ratings, consensus mean target price, total analysts covering the company, how much the price is up from its 52-week low and how much it is down from its 52-week high so that market participants can have access to all the relevant information at one place.

This companies’ data screen of Sivastatz helps identify profitable dividend-paying companies and can be considered as a form of profitable companies’ screener to identify potential opportunities.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. How is profitability of a business measured?

Ans. A business is said to be profitable when its total business income exceeds its total business costs. In this case, income is considered as money generated from the activities of the business. Profitability is a relative term, and it can be measured using gross profit margins, operating profit margins and net profit margins.

Q. At what net profit margin is a business profitable?

Ans. Although there is no hard and fast rule, the profit margin for businesses depends on the size and nature of the company. Typically, a healthy profit margin for a small business tends to range anywhere between 10% to 15%. Worth mentioning there are certain businesses, such as grocery retail, that may generate 2%-3% net profit margin. However, they will still be called profitable as sales volumes are typically high in these businesses.
3. Does this screen show companies’ data from a particular sector?
Ans. No, this screen includes companies from across the sectors and the market capitalisation category.
